How to use the Excel to CSV converter
- Make sure the table you want to export is on the first sheet of the workbook.
- Add the XLSX, XLS or ODS file and convert.
- Download the CSV and load it into your import screen.
One sheet per CSV
CSV holds a single table, so the converter exports the first sheet and ignores any others. Move the sheet you want into first position, or split the workbook into one file per sheet and convert each.
Values are written the way they appear on screen, using each cell’s number format. A cell showing 12.50 becomes 12.50 in the CSV, and a formula is exported as its result rather than its text.
Encoding and quoting
Output is UTF-8, so accented, Cyrillic and Chinese characters survive imports into tools such as Shopify, WordPress, MySQL or Google Sheets. Fields that contain a comma, a quote or a line break are wrapped in double quotes as RFC 4180 describes.
The separator is always a comma. If your importer expects semicolons, as some European Excel setups do, pick the comma option in its import settings or change the separator there.
Your workbook and our server
Reading Excel formats is done by LibreOffice on our server, so the workbook is uploaded over HTTPS and converted in an isolated process.
The workbook and the CSV are deleted right after the converted file is returned to your browser.
Questions
Is the CSV safe for a bank or payroll import?
It follows the common RFC 4180 rules in UTF-8. Check the importer’s own requirements, such as date format or column order, and adjust them in the sheet before converting.
Do dates keep their format?
Dates are written exactly as the cell displays them. If the importer needs a pattern such as 2026-10-28, apply that date format to the column before converting.
Why is a number rounded in the CSV?
The CSV takes the displayed value. Increase the decimal places shown in the sheet before converting to keep full precision.
Can I export several workbooks at once?
Yes. Each one gives a CSV of its first sheet, and the set can be downloaded as a ZIP.
